The Differences between Heat-insulating Fire-resistant Glass And Single-pane Fire-resistant Glass

Fire-resistant glass is a special type of glass that can maintain its integrity and heat insulation in the prescribed fire resistance test. Its main function in fire prevention is to control the spread of fire or block smoke. There are significant differences between fire-resistant glass of heat-insulating type and ordinary type, which are mainly reflected in performance, application and price, etc.

Performance Difference

  • Heat insulation performance

Heat-insulating fire rated glass: This type of fire-resistant glass not only has the function of fire prevention but also can effectively prevent the transfer of heat. When a fire breaks out, it can significantly lower the temperature on the backside of the fire, protecting people and property from high-temperature damage. Heat-insulating fire-resistant glass is generally classified into three types: Class A (fully heat-insulating), Class B (partially heat-insulating), and Class C (non-heat-insulating but with fire integrity), among which Class A has the best heat insulation performance.

Ordinary fire rated glass: This type of glass mainly focuses on fire resistance integrity, that is, it does not shatter or fall off within a certain period of time to prevent the spread of flames and smoke. However, it does not have heat insulation performance, and the temperature on the backside may rise rapidly.

  • Strength and safety

Whether it is heat-insulating or ordinary fire-resistant glass, its strength is much higher than that of ordinary glass. They have undergone special processing techniques, capable of withstanding significant external impacts. Moreover, when broken, they form small particles without sharp edges, reducing harm to the human body.

Heat-insulating fire-resistant glass may have an edge in strength because it needs to withstand higher temperature changes and pressure.

Application Differences

Heat-insulating fireproof glass: Due to its excellent heat insulation and fire resistance performance, heat-insulating fire-resistant glass is widely used in building components that need to meet both transparency and fire resistance requirements simultaneously, such as fire-resistant doors and Windows, building courtyards, atriums, shared Spaces, and fire partition walls in computer rooms.

Ordinary fireproof glass: It is mainly used in places where the requirements for heat insulation performance are not high but fire isolation is needed, such as fire-resistant glass partition walls and outdoor curtain walls without heat insulation requirements.

Price difference

Heat-insulating fire-resistant glass is relatively expensive due to its complex manufacturing process and high performance requirements.

Although ordinary fire-resistant glass also has certain fire-resistant performance, its price is relatively low and it is more suitable for occasions with limited budgets.
