Fireproof Glass Partition | Safety And Beauty Coexist

Definition of fireproof glass partition wall

Fireproof glass partition wall is a building partition system with both fireproof function and transparent characteristics. It is mainly used for fire partitions, evacuation passages and other areas inside or outside the building. Its core function is to control the spread of fire and isolate smoke when a fire occurs through fire resistance integrity (preventing flame penetration) and thermal insulation (blocking heat transfer), so as to buy time for personnel evacuation and fire rescue. According to fire resistance performance, fireproof glass partition walls can be divided into the following three categories:

  • Class A (insulation type): It meets the requirements of fire resistance integrity and thermal insulation at the same time, and is suitable for scenes that require comprehensive fire protection, such as stairwells, escape passages, etc.

  • Class B (partial insulation type): It meets the requirements of fire resistance integrity and thermal radiation intensity, and is suitable for areas with slightly lower insulation requirements.

  • Class C (non-insulation type): It only meets the requirements of fire resistance integrity, and is suitable for partitions or external curtain walls without insulation requirements, such as equipment rooms, skylights, etc.

Construction of fireproof glass partitions

The construction of fireproof glass partitions must meet strict fire protection regulations, mainly including the following key components:

  • Glass type:

Single-piece fireproof glass: Made of high-strength tempered glass processed by special technology, the thickness is usually 6~19mm, and the impact strength is 6~12 times that of ordinary glass. It is suitable for scenes without insulation requirements (such as exterior curtain walls and smoke-proof vertical walls).

Composite fireproof glass: It is composed of multiple layers of glass laminated flame-retardant materials (such as expanded silicate gel), which has both heat insulation and sound insulation properties, and the fire resistance limit can reach 60~180 minutes. It is mostly used in safety passages, elevator rooms, etc.

  • Frame and filling materials:

The frame is mostly made of steel or aluminum alloy. It is necessary to set a sealing groove and embed non-combustible sealing strips to ensure fireproof sealing of the gap.

The gap between layers needs to be filled with rock wool or mineral wool (thickness ≥100mm), supported by galvanized steel plates, and supplemented with fireproof sealant to prevent smoke from flowing.

  • Auxiliary design:

When there is no window sill wall, a non-combustible solid skirt wall or fireproof glass skirt wall with a height of ≥0.8m shall be set on the outer edge of the floor to prevent the flame entrainment effect

Features of fireproof glass partitions

  • Excellent fireproof performance:

The fire resistance limit can reach 0.5~3 hours, and the composite glass can also block more than 90% of heat transfer and delay structural collapse.

  • Permeability and aesthetics:

Maintain space lighting and visual continuity, suitable for modern architectural aesthetics, and replace traditional solid firewalls.

  • Multifunctional integration:

It has sound insulation, impact resistance, weather resistance and other properties. Some products can also be customized with edge grinding, punching, glaze and other processes.

  • Compliance:

It must pass the national fire certification (such as GB 15763 standard) and meet the requirements of the "Building Design Fire Protection Code".

Application places of fireproof glass partitions

Fireproof glass partitions are widely used in the following scenarios:

  • Public and commercial buildings:

Office buildings, hotels, shopping malls: used for fire partitions, corridor partitions, atrium enclosures, taking into account safety and transparency.

  • Medical and educational facilities:

Hospital corridors, operating room partitions: convenient for monitoring patients while meeting fire protection requirements; school libraries, laboratories: to ensure the safety of evacuation of dense crowds.

  • Industrial and transportation facilities:

Factory equipment rooms, underground parking lots: isolate flammable areas; subway stations, tunnels: as fire barriers to control smoke diffusion.

  • Residential and special areas:

High-rise residential kitchen partitions, fire doors and windows: improve family fire protection capabilities; computer rooms, archives: protect important equipment and data.
